Valerie Gracious was born into a musical family (both parents were professional violinists) and studied classical piano for twelve years. Her first collaboration with Phideaux was at the age of 4 in a nursery school production about Moses, where Phideaux played the baby Moses and Valerie played his mother. Since those early years, she continued her proclivity for the dramatic and appeared in various local theatre productions. She also studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City for three years and attended summer stock for two years at Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts. Although they remained friends throughout their childhood, Phideaux and Valerie reunited musically when she became the lead female vocalist and keyboardist for Sally, Dick and Jane. She has also made guest vocal appearances with The Sun Machine. She has worked as a singer and keyboardist with other local bands and songwriters in the New York and Detroit areas throughout the years. Today, she is married and resides outside Detroit, where she is raising three musical daughters.  When not singing for Phideaux, she works as a freelance writer and musician.
